Who We Are

Bluegrove Lodge No. 965 AF&AM is celebrating it's 100th year.  It is a fraternal organization that admits, makes and passes Freemasons according to the Constitution and Laws, and Edits of the Grand Lodge of Texas, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons.  Its goals are to advance the moral and social interest of its membership; to foster good citizenship, honest industry and upright living; to cultivate the exercise of charity in its best and broadest sense; to assist the widows and orphans of its deceased members; to stimulate friendship, harmony, and brotherly love, and generally promote, in its own way, the happiness of mankind -- it is a Fraternity of good men, linked together by honorable and indissoluble bonds to accomplish these noble purposes eschewing all interests in factional politics and sectarian religion and free from the dictation of both.

A Brief History

Masonry is the oldest fraternity in the world, although no one can claim to know its exact origins. There is evidence that the Masonry we know today probably grew out of the guilds of stonemasons who built the castles and cathedrals of the Middle Ages. The oldest known Masonic document, the Regius poem, dates to around 1390 A.D.  In March 1835 the first Masonic meeting was held in Texas for the purpose of establishing a lodge in Texas.  The Bluegrove Lodge received its charter to operate on December 6, 1907 and has been in continuous operation since.  Many of the Founding Fathers as well as famous Texans were Masons, including and George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Paul Revere, Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, Douglas MacArthur, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston.  . From presidents, astronauts, and sports heroes to carpenters, CEOs, and bus drivers, millions of Masons have made our country what it is today. As Masons, history, tradition, and pride are central concepts in our lives.
